RUBY & SAPPHIRE

  • No signs of heat treatment: No indications of heat treatment.
  • Signs of heat treatment: Indications of heat treatment detected.
  • Clarity enhanced: Clarity improvement through treatment.
  • Diffusion: Surface diffusion/star diffusion.
  • Dyed: Color dyed.

EMERALD

Clarity enhancement treatments can be categorized as: none (no enhancement), minor (low enhancement), moderate (medium enhancement), and significant (high enhancement), depending on the amount of filler material detected in surface cavities or cracks.

Clarity Enhancement:

  • No indications of clarity enhancement: No detectable clarity enhancement treatment.

Quantification of Clarity Enhancement:

JADEITE

  • Type A: No enhancements except for traditional polishing. (Fei Cui Type A)
  • Type B: Jadeite is bleached and then impregnated with polymer. (Fei Cui Type B)
  • Type C: Colored with dyes. (Fei Cui Type C)
  • Type B+C: Polymer-impregnated and dyed jadeite. (Fei Cui Type B + C)
  • Type D: Composite jadeite (Fei Cui Type D).

PEARL

Pearls are currently categorized into four quality grades and are widely recognized globally:

  • A: Pearls with low luster, and more than 25% of the surface has blemishes. (A+ >25%; A- <25%)
  • AA: Pearls with high luster, and at least 75% of the surface is blemish-free. (AA+ >75%; AA- <75%)
  • AAA: Pearls with very high luster, and more than 95% of the surface is blemish-free.
